16.09.202606:00:00UTC+00UK Core RPI Edges Higher to 3.3% in August, Signalling Persistent Price Pressures

The United Kingdom’s core Retail Price Index (RPI) rose to 3.3% year-over-year in August 2026, up from 3.1% in July, according to updated data as of 16 September 2026. The reading reflects price changes stripped of the most volatile components, offering a clearer view of underlying inflation pressures in the economy.

The latest figure indicates that core inflationary pressures remain firm, with August’s annual rise in core RPI slightly outpacing that of the previous month. The previous indicator, recorded in July 2026, also represented a year-over-year comparison, as does the current August reading, measuring price changes relative to the same month a year earlier.

The uptick from 3.1% to 3.3% on a year-over-year basis suggests that, while broader disinflation trends may be under way in some areas, underlying price growth has not yet fully cooled. Market participants and policymakers are likely to watch upcoming data closely for signs of whether core price pressures begin to stabilize or continue to firm into the autumn.
